2010 Sharp AQUOS LED tv
2010 Sharp LED tv overview
Sharp has released information about their 2010 model line up. In the competitive world of
consumer electronics there is always a battle between marketing departments to appeal to
consumers after the latest and greatest. This year the buzzword seems to be 3D
technology. Early reviews have been mixed, but many manufacturers are banking on it's
success. At this point in time however Sharp is not one of them as these 2010 models do not
include 3D.
If not 3d tv then what?
The 2010 Sharp LED lineup is proudly promoting their new QuadPixel technology.
Traditionally the three colors used across the color spectrum is red, green and blue.
QuadPixel technology adds yellow to the color filter enabling the tv to display colors that
have been difficult to display in other LCD tvs. According to Sharp, the QuadPixel technology
of the 2010 Sharp models allow more then 1 trillion colors to be displayed.
2010 Aquos LED LCD Tv series
It can be difficult to understand the differences between each manufacturer and then the
differences between the models within each model year. Below is a brief overview of the 2010
Sharp LED LCD tvs.
When looking at a Sharp flatscreen LED LCD model you will see something like this:
Sharp AQUOS LC-xxLEyyyUN (ie Sharp AQUOS LC-60LE920UN)
-
The LC is the tvs standard beginning for LCD based tvs (which includes LED).
-
The xx is the size of the tv in inches.
-
The LE indicates the LED based backlighting.
-
The yyyUN indicates the particular series of the model. Series includes 810, 820
and 920 in the current models.
So let's take a look at the different series for this year.
LE700 Series
The LE700 Series is available in 32", 40", 46" and 52" models.
Although this Series has been out for a while, it is a full 1080p, 120Hz tv that
has the X-Gen LCD panel and the UltraBrilliant Full Array LED backlight system. It claims a
2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 4 HDMI inputs and AQUOS Net connection.
The
Sharp AQUOS LC46LE700UN 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV has been a popular model in the series.
LE810 Series
The Sharp LE810 Series is available in 40", 46", 52" and 60" models.
The LE810 Series, like the rest of the series is a full 1080p, 120Hz tv, which
along with it's fast 4ms response time provides a smooth picture.
Starting with this series, Sharp has introduced the QuadPixel technology for
producing a brilliant array of colors (over 1 trillion). It has an X-Gen LCD panel with
UltraBrilliant edge lit LED backlighting. It also comes with AQUOS Net, but adds a Netflix

LE920 Series
The LE920 Series is the flagship model and is available in 52", 60" and an industry
first 68" for a large immersive picture.
Of course it includes QuadPixel technology and LED backlighting alonw
with AQUOS net with Netflix. The LE920 Series offers outstanding performance with fast action
with AquoMotion240. The 240Hz screen virtually eliminates blur. In addition
the LE920 Series claims a 6,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
The LE920 offers a USB media player for digital video, music and photos.
Summary
It is a competitive market for Tv manufacturers. The Sharp AQUOS line offers
vibrant colors and deep blacks. Performance is good, but where Sharp hopes to stand out from
the crowd is with it's QuadPixel technology and wide color gamut. It remains to be seen how
the 2010 Sharp LED tv models will compete against those who are boasting 3D HD Tv models. To
some consumers this is of utmost importance so they will look elsewhere. Many consumers
however, still feel that 3D is a gimmick, at least in it's current form so the new AQUOS LED tvs
will be worthy of consideration.
