What is Blu-ray?

Blu-ray is the latest disc format designed to play and record high definition content.  Blu-ray was jointly developed by the Blu-ray disc association, which is a group of manufacturers and consumer electronics leaders including Sony, Apple, Samsung, Dell, Panasonic and Pioneer among others.

Why the name blu-ray?  Blu-ray players use a blue laser that is more precise then the current laser in DVD players.

Blu-ray Recorders

Blu-ray will also look to add Blu-ray recorders in the future as more and more consumers are adding high definition tvs to their home theaters.  Blu-ray recorders high data transfer rates allow consumers to record and archive high definition content to disc.  Blu-ray recorders may include hard disk drives allowing them to playback recorded content as well as record high definition content at the same time in a manner similar to a DVR except with the obvious benefit of being able to burn content to a disc.
