Home HD Projector
Is a home HD projector right for you?
The thought of a larger then life image
projected in your home is certainly appealing
to any home theater fan, but is it right for
you? There are a few things to consider before
deciding whether to invest in a home hd
projector for your home.
Lighting
Maybe the most important thing to consider
is the amount of ambient light you have in your
room. If there are large windows, with direct
sunlight it will be difficult to produce an
acceptable image. The more amount of light in a
room, the brighter the projector has to be to
display the image. An ideal location for a home
hd projector is one that has complete light
control. Basements make great locations for
home theaters because you can completely
control the lights, turning them off for the
movies or dimming them for a football game.
Areas such as great rooms or living rooms can
be more difficult because it is more difficult
if not impossible to limit light into the
room.
Room Layout
The first consideration is the layout of
your room. Which room are you considering for
the projector? Does it even have a wall that is
big enough to project the image on? What is the
depth of the room? Consider how far from the
screen that you hope to place the projector and
where you are planning to have the seating.
Today's home hd projectors are capable of
producing a variety of image sizes depending on
their zoom capability and whether they have a
short throw lens that can produce a larger
image from a short distance or a long throw
lens that can produce a manageable size image
from further back.
Seating placement
It is important to know how far back your
seating will be. This can vary based on
personal taste. When you go into the local
cinema some people like to sit at the back of
the cinema, while some like to go in the front
row. A general rule of thumb is to place
seating approximately 1.5 times the screen
width away from the screen, although with high
definition resolution, particularly 1080p
resolution it is not uncommon to place seating
slightly closer to the screen.
Ceiling mount or
tabletop
Do you plan on mounting the projector on the
ceiling? This is a great way to get the
projector out of the way. On the other
hand a tabletop placement will allow a wide
variety of flexibility and portability.
You can just pick up your projector and move it
to another area such as an outdoor theater or
to a friend's house.
If you have thought through these areas and
have a room with light control, a large enough
room with ample wall space and have a room that
will allow you to place the projector where it
needs to be and seating where you would like it
to be then you are a prime candidate for a home
hd projector.
