Samsung LED tv (2009 models)
2009 Samsung LED tv overview

Samsung has made it even more difficult to choose a flat screen tv now that it has introduced
the new Samsung LED tv lineup. In addition to the plasma models and ever popular LCD models
consumers now must also consider LED models as well.
These new models boast even greater contrast ratios then LCD along with an emphasis on
eco-friendly design by reducing power consumption up to 40% compared to other LCD
models. The public continues to long for slimmer tvs and these models do not
disappoint. The Samsung LEDs have a depth of 1.2" allowing you to mount it on the
wall as if it was a work of art and with the stylish Touch of Color bezel and stunning
picture quality they do in fact resemble a work of art.
As mentioned in my Samsung LCDHD tv overview, it can be
difficult to decipher the letters and numbers in the ever changing Samsung flat screen tv
models. I will try to simplify things a bit for you to hopefully make some sense
out of your search and then hopefully point you in the right direction to finalize your
research and decision. So below is an overview of this year's Samsung LED tv models.
Samsung UNxx series
Some of the most popular Samsung LED models include:
When looking at Samsung flat screen tv models you will see something like this:
Samsung UNxxByyyy (ie Samsung UN55B7000)
The UN signifies that it is an LED model. If you see an LN it is one of their LCD
models. (Click Samsung LCDHD to learn more about the LCD
tvs.)
The xx = the size of the LED screen in inches. LED models will be 32", 40", 46"
or 55" (although note that not all sizes are available in all series models as I will touch on
next).
The yyyy indicates the specific series of the model. 6000 indicates the series 6
models, 7000 indicates the series 7 models and 8000 indicates the series 8 models.
Samsung LED Series 6 tvs
LED tvs in this series include a 32", 40", 46" and 55" model. They are all full HD at
1080p and include the popular amber Touch of Color bezel. As mentioned above, they are ultra
thin at 1.2" and Samsung claims that they utilize up to 40% less power then conventional LCD
tvs.
One of the big drawing points to LED tvs are the astounding contrast ratios. The dynamic
contrast ratio of the Series 6 tvs are 3,000,000:1 to achieve blacker blacks and whiter
whites.
The Series 6 models have a snappy 4ms response time and include Samsung's Auto Motion Plus
120Hz to reduce motion blur, particularly in fast moving movie scenes and sports
broadcasts.
The Samsung LED Series 6 tvs are also not lacking in features. These models feature 4 HDMI
connections, a game mode, picture in picture, Infolink which allows for RSS feeds over a broadband
internet connection on your tv along with various multimedia features utilizing the USB
connection.
One of the most popular LED models in this series is the
Samsung UN46B6000 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV
Samsung LED Series 7 tvs
LED tvs in this series include a 40", 46" and 55" model. Like the Series 6 models they are
also a full 1080p with a Touch of Color bezel, are ultra thin and energy efficient.
They also have the 3,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 4ms response time and offer a 120Hz
refresh rate.
The main difference with the Series 7 tvs is the additional features that are included with the
tvs. These tvs feature Samsung's new Internet@TV online service that allows the
tv to access content from Youtube, Yahoo, Flickr and more. It is also DLNA
compatible for easier interconnectivity with a variety of other devices.
The
Samsung UN55B7000 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV is a popular model in this series.
Samsung LED Series 8 tvs
Series 8 has a 46" and 55" model. It again comes with a slim 1.2" design
and has the Touch of Color bezel, but this time is a stylish grey design.
The Series 8 models have all of the features of the Series 7 models, but add some
improvements to the performance of the tvs. These models have an astounding 5,000,000:1
dynamic contrast ratio with a super quick 2ms response time. In addition they have an ultra
fast 240Hz refresh rate, which is 4 times the frame rate of other tvs. This allows for
an exceptionally smooth picture.
Both the
Samsung UN46B8000 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV and the
Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV are very popular.
As with any newer technology, you can expect to pay a bit more for the LED models as compared
to Samsung's LCDs. I trust this gives you a bit of an overview on the Samsung LED
models and helps to clarify some of the major differences between the various
models.
