Home theater room: Size and Location

Some people are fortunate enough to be able to plan for a dedicated home theater room prior to the construction of their home, while many others make plans to remodel an area or simply use an existing room.

A natural location for the home theater room is in the basement.  A basement is a great location due to the limited amount of natural light that is present.  A basement is also a common location because it is a more isolated area and an area that can be fairly easily remodeled to meet the needs of the theater room.

Although basements are probably the most popular location, attics and other "extra" rooms are also common, while others choose to have home theater equipment added to their current family room.

The room should be big enough for several comfortable chairs such as theater chairs or sofas at a minimum distance of 1.5 - 2 times the screen width.  If you sit closer then this you will begin to notice scan lines or pixels.
