Wii
In December of 2006 Nintendo launched the
Wii, it's newest console to compete with the
Xbox 360. The Wii replaces Nintendo's
Gamecube. Like the PS3, demand was
extremely high during the 2006 Christmas season
and it has been hard to get your
hands on the Wii ever since.
The Wii includes wireless controller, but
does not have a hard drive. Unlike the
Xbox 360 and the PS3, the Wii is limited to a
resolution of 480p which is not considered high
definition. The Wii is the most compact
of the next generation consoles.
Wii Remote
The Wii remote distinguishes the Wii from
both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 because of its
unique gameplay opportunities. The Wii
Remote resembles a traditional remote control,
but adds motion sensing technology. The
Wii remote is designed to involve the player in
the action. The remote can sense how the
player swings, hits and points and acts as the
tennis racquet or baseball bat or golf
club.
Wii Menu
The Wii Menu offers numerous
different entertainment, information and
communication channels to make it a console for
the whole family. Channels include th
Mii Channel where personalized
charicatures can be created and the Everybody
votes channel which can be accessed when
connected to the Internet. Other channels
include a shopping channel for downloading
video game content, Virtual Console Channels,
an Internet Channel, Photo Channel and
some Communication channels.
Popular Wii Games
In addition to being backward compatible
with all Nintendo Gamecube games, the Wii is
intent on expanding the boundaries of
traditional video games to include a wide
variety of games, many of which are aimed at
families.
Wii Sports has revolutionized the home
video game by it's level of user interactivity
in conjunction with the Wii Remote. The
game which is packaged with the system allows
you to play Tennis, Golf, Bowling, Baseball and
Boxing. The remote allows you to simulate
actions such as swinging a tennis racquet or
baseball bat or rolling a bowling ball.
It is a great way to involve all players, even
those who are uninterested in traditional video
games and an excellent way for a family to
enjoy an evening together.
Another popular interactive game is Wii Play
which is bundled with the Wii Remote.
It has nine games included which are fun
for the entire family.
Wii Fit is an interactive game or program
that lets you participate in wide variety of
training and fitness activities.
Other popular games include:
- The ever popular Mario Brothers series
of games
- Mega Man 9
- Star Wars: The Force
Unleashed
- Popular EA sports games like Madden
Football and Tiger Woods golf
